Personal Learning Plan (PLP)

Students enrol in Stage 1 Personal Learning Plan in Year 10. This is a SACE unit of study and contributes to their required graduation points for completing their Northern Territory Certificate of Education.

Personal Learning Plan is a program that requires students to think about their future and research some of the different aspects of moving beyond high school, into the wider community, further study, and a career.

As a part of PLP, students complete a block placement of Work Experience.

Individual Work Experience Placements

In addition to Work Experience completed as part of PLP, students who are interested in a particular career may request to complete individual work experience placements. These are approved on a case-by-case basis. It is important that students are up to date with work in their classes and that they have a genuine desire to find out more about that career pathway. Students interested in an individual work experience placement need to apply to the Work Experience and VETiS Coordinator.

Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS)

Work Experience is also completed as a part of some VETiS programs. This information is provided as part of the course information on enrolment into these programs. Usually any required Work Experience that is included in these programs is compulsory to the completion of the course. For more information, please speak with the Work Experience and VETiS Coordinator.

Employability Skills

In all of our work experience programs, we aim to prepare students for further study, training or employment beyond St Joseph’s Catholic College. Work experience is a valuable way for students to learn what they like and don’t like about different types of employment. They are also opportunities to reconnect students to core curriculum, as they see the relevance of these subject areas to future employment.

The Careers curriculum and Work Experience focus is on Employability Skills. These skills include:

  • Teamwork
  • Technology
  • Problem Solving
  • Communication
  • Literacy and Numeracy
  • Leadership
  • Initiative and Enterprise
  • Planning and Organising
  • Self-management
  • Learning skills
